Green Slate (Altered Gabbro Dyke)

Place Collected:Eureka Slate Quarry, near Kelsey, El Dorado Co., California
Object number: BOS3471
DescriptionA metagabbro that is slate-like in appearance, so it was called the "Eureka Quarry Green Slate." A whole-rock chemical analysis of this specimen is included in USGS Bull. 275 Slate Deposits and Slate Industry of the United States by T. Nelson Dale with sections by E. C. Eckel W. F. Hillebrand, and A. T. Coons. Page 58 by W. T. Shaler. I'm not sure if the analysis was done on this exact specimen, or another of its type.
